Prominent Opportunities for Family Physicians to Have a Voice on Issues

Several opportunities exist for Family Physicians to have a voice on issues that impact our members across Michigan. Many of these positions are open to all members, and we welcome any and all nominations.
We are also looking to learn more about you, our members and are expanding our database to include more information. We want to know: what are your interests? What are your areas of expertise? Whether it be issues surrounding public health, pediatrics, obesity, or practice transformation; we would like to know!
What do YOU consider yourself an expert in? What issue or issues are you most knowledgeable about? Would you be willing to volunteer to assist with MAFP advocacy efforts or be a speaker for an upcoming educational event?
Let us know! Click here to take a short, 3-question survey that will help us know you better.
Contract Advisory Committee
- Wisconsin Physician Services, the Medicare Carrier for Michigan which writes policy for Medicare A and B, has asked the Academy to nominate an MAFP member to participate on the Contractor Advisory Committee (CAC) to represent Family Practice in Michigan. This CAC is involved with providing comments and recommendations on Local Coverage Determinations (policy) as well as addressing Provider Outreach and Education topics that are germane to providers. Meetings are held three times annually, rotating between Novi, MI and Indianapolis, IN; members of the committee may participate via conference call if necessary. The first meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 15, with the next meetings slated to convene in January and May.
Michigan Advisory Committee on Immunizations
- Michigan Advisory Committee on Immunizations (MACI) seeks an MAFP Member to represent Family Medicine’s perspectives on immunizations by serving on this statewide committee. MACI is responsible for making recommendations to the state regarding immunization requirements and recommendations that are implemented by the Michigan Department of Community Health. The committee parallels the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices in reviewing the science of vaccines and then making recommendations, but at the statewide level. MACI meets four times per year in Okemos, with the potential to call in if unable to attend in person. MAFP currently has a voting representative, and we are now seeking an alternate.
